The Appalachian Society of the Arts is officially opening enrollment for the Fall Semester of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program to serve the young people of Scott County. JAM seeks to preserve our important mountain music heritage by offering low cost lessons in fiddle, banjo, guitar, and other instruments of the Appalachian region to small groups of students in after school settings.
The program will begin on September 11th, 2023 and will run through December 4, 2023, with no class on October 9th, October 30th and November 20th. Classes will be offered at the Oneida Elementary School, 330 Claude Terry Dr, Oneida, TN 37841. Children will need to commit to attendance at all weekly classes each Monday during this time. Transportation from school to the JAM site will not be provided, and parents will need to pick up students at 8 pm.
The cost for this program is 15 dollars a day for a total of 150. Students will engage in instructional sessions once a week for this fee. Instruments will be provided on a loan basis for JAM students during the time of their participation in the program.
We have a limited number of reduced fee slots and scholarships available for those in need, thanks to the donations from the community in partnership with the Appalachian Society of the Arts; please check the box on this form if you wish to be considered for one of these spots.
Registration and payment will be due on the first day of class, September 11th, 2023 or can be paid beforehand online. Please contact Ashlee Glaspy @ 865-256-5804 or email appalachiansocietyofthearts@gmail.com with questions or for more details.
