Achieving Natural Movement Through AT and Tai Chi/Qi Gong Principles [1]

This workshop introduces the similarities and differences in the approach to movement between the Alexander Technique and Tai Chi / Qi Gong. ABOUT MISAKO TSUCHIYA

Misako Tsuchiya was born and raised in Japan and later immigrated to the United States in 1981, where she has been dedicating herself for over 30 years to community advocacy work within the Japanese community, through Native ceremony, studying and teaching AlexanderTechnique and Tai Chi/Qi Gong, and guiding others in deepening their relationship to themselves and Mother Earth. She has taught and facilitated classes and workshops with various groups such as with acting and performance students in the UC system, the AADA (American Academy of Dramatic Arts), the unhoused population at Skid Row, incarcerated people through the sharing of Native ceremonies, those recovering from drug addiction at AADAP (Asian American Drug Abuse Program), and individuals in job transition with the non-profit organization Chrysalis. Misako actively works towards supporting the healing of the Japanese community through organizing the “250 mi. Little Tokyo to Manzanar Spiritual Unity and Prayer Run” for the last 30 years.

She has realized the existence of multiple common threads between all of these ancestral ways and that a major part of her purpose is to teach others how to connect to the center of the Universe through multiple means such as practicing their Alexander Technique. It is through this connection to the center of the Universe where each person can find their own happiness, their true selves, their purpose, and the meaning of life. Misako offers this workshop in support of the Judith Leibowitz Scholarship Fund as part of her commitment to the visibility of people of color in the practice of Alexander Technique.
