Kelp Zine Workshop with artist <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.instagram.com/athelredunready/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Nathaniel Schindler</a>. We&rsquo;re excited to invite you to the third workshop in the Ecology Art Lab series &mdash; Kelp Zine Workshop, a hands-on art and ecology program for both children and adults. This workshop will be led by Long Island artist Nathaniel Schindler, who will guide participants through the history of zines, how information is shared in nature, and the many creative ways to make and distribute your own handmade magazine. The workshop aims to draw inspiration from sugar kelp and the stories held within our local bay. We&rsquo;re also honored to welcome <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.instagram.com/violetcoveoysterco" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Sue Wicks of Violet Cove Oysters</a>, who will join the workshop as a guest educator. Sue will share her deep knowledge of kelp cultivation, aquaculture, and the role these practices play in restoring marine ecosystems. This workshop is rooted in Mastic Beach Conservancy&rsquo;s kelp farming efforts. Last year, the Conservancy successfully harvested its first line of kelp and has recently planted its second&mdash;work made possible through the guidance and support of Sue Wicks. Sue was also instrumental in helping the Conservancy secure a permit for a one-acre aquaculture project to cultivate kelp and oysters, with the goal of restoring the bay&rsquo;s natural ecosystem and habitat. Participants will create their own zine inspired by the ecology of the bay. All supplies and materials will be provided.
