2024 PHAA Annual Ceremony Commemorating the Battle of Cooch's Bridge.

On September 3, 1777, at Cooch's Bridge, was the first battle of the Philadelphia Campaign and remains the only battlefield on Delaware soil. At least two-dozen Continental soldiers were killed during this battle and are buried in forgotten, unmarked graves somewhere on the battlefield. 


Join us in honoring these fallen soldiers at the 247th Memorial Service. Reenactors, demonstrations and presentations will be active from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and resume after the noon Memorial Service till 2 p.m. This public event is free, including parking, demonstrations, programs and access to the museum. Registration (free ticket) is encouraged so we can better gauge how many will be attending. 


Food and drink will be available for purchase. Available seating will be limited so feel free to bring your lawn chairs. 


Memorial Service begins at noon. 


Demonstrations on-going throughout the event:

Period basket weaving, dress making, children's games, a soldier's life and more. 


Presentation schedule:

10:15 Delaware Patriot Heroes: Robert Kirkwood and Peter Jaquett -This presentation is a general overview of Ken Wiggins latest book   of the same title (available for purchase and for Ken to sign). Robert Kirkwood and Peter Jaquett were battle buddies in the Delaware     Continental Regiment during the Revolutionary War, who relied upon one another on and off the field. They led their respective                 companies through 32 battles over almost eight years of war. 

1:15 The Battle of Cooch's Bridge revisited -an informative review of the only battle fought on Delaware soil and the first engagement of the Philadelphia Campaign. Presented by James Stone and Keith Jackson of the PHAA and utilizing a diorama for easier understanding of the logistics and movements during the battle.   


At least a half-a-dozen history-theme organizations are participating in this event and will have information to share for your perusing pleasure.
