This wooden leaf bowl and heart spoon were hand-carved out of Jovillo (Tigerwood) by artisans from the Cucharas Ixchel de Petén cooperative. They are a collective of rural farmers and community health workers who were refugees or internally displaced due to the country’s civil war. Their gorgeous spoons are made from the local, naturally hard woods that are native to the humid jungles of northern Guatemala. The woods used are all certified as sustainable, preserving local forests while doubling the income of the cooperative’s families.
