Explicit Instruction for Literacy Success A Two-Day Workshop with Dr. Anita Archer Join nationally recognized author and consultant Dr. Anita Archer for an intensive, practical exploration of how explicit instruction drives durable literacy outcomes. Grounded in the science of how students learn to read and write, this workshop moves beyond theory into the specific, observable teaching moves that make instruction clear, engaging, and effective for every learner. Over two days, participants will examine the essential elements of explicit instruction, including clear learning goals, skillful modeling, guided and supported practice, high rates of student response, and precise feedback, and see how each applies directly to literacy instruction across foundational skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. Dr. Archer will demonstrate these practices live, unpack the reasoning behind them, and give participants the tools to recognize, coach, and sustain them long after the workshop ends. Because lasting change requires more than strong individual teachers, this workshop is built for the full instructional team. District and building administrators will leave with a clearer picture of what high-quality explicit instruction looks like and how to support it systematically. Instructional coaches and reading specialists will gain a shared language and concrete look-fors for classroom observation and feedback. Teachers will walk away with immediately usable strategies they can apply in their next lesson. Participants will learn how to:

Apply the core design and delivery elements of explicit instruction to literacy lessons

Increase student engagement through high rates of active, successful responding

Model skills and strategies clearly, then scaffold practice toward independence

Deliver feedback that moves learning forward

Recognize and coach explicit instruction consistently across classrooms and buildings

Build the shared vision and common language needed to sustain effective practice district-wide
