I will be there the entire time since I want to try several places for future trips, but feel free to only come over on the weekend. Fishing location: Indian Island, Indian Island Park, Jefferson County. Indian Island is 13 miles from Port Townsend. From Port Townsend take Sims Road south, left onto Ness Corner Rd, left onto WA-116 E/Flagler Rd, slight left onto Anderson Rd., then onto Indian Island. You can park along the beach to fish. Other fishing spots near Port Townsend: Hood Canal Shin Tidelands County Park, Port Williams Beach near Sequim, and Seal Rock on Hood Canal near Doswalips (longer drive). Lodging: Hotels or VRBO-type places in Port Townsend, or camping at Fort Flagler State Park (reservations) or County Parks on Indian Island (Lower and Upper Oak Bay Campgrounds, no reservations). There are other camping facilities in the area. Time to fish: At Indian Island you should aim for fishing the largest of the high tides that usually go to the lowest of the low tides. This means 2 to 3 hours before the top of the high tide, or 2 to 3 hours after the top of the high tide. First daylight and last of daylight are best, searun cuts do not like high light in shallows. It is possible to pick up silvers at this location. Best tides for this trip will be around 530 PM, but there will be a morning high tide that may also be good. Equipment: 6-7 wt rods, floating or sink tip. I use an intermediate clear sink tip. Flies: Foam, wet flies, beadheads, delia‘s conehead squid, delia‘s crossover fly, delia‘s hotwire fly, and delia‘s ghost. There is also a fly called the suspending minnow that is good.
