Three bales of hay feeds the horses for one day! The cost of each bale is $6.50, and our hardy volunteer crew helps unload the wagons and stack the hay in the barn until it gets moved out into the hay feeder. Our total annual hay bill is about $3,600.
Each of our horses gets their hooves trimmed by Cameryn, our professional farrier, every 5-6 weeks. She keeps their feet healthy and sturdy. That adds up to about $3,000 annually, but it's worth it - poor hoof care is a major cause of pain and mortality in the American equine population.
Each horse needs a vet check up and a dental exam annually, and dental treatment may be needed every year.
