Algebra 1

MTWThF 1:00-3:00pm

This Algebra I boot camp is designed for high school students who are: (1) struggling with Pre-
Algebra/8 th grade math concepts, (2) preparing to take Algebra I this upcoming school year, or
(3) retaking Algebra I. Students will be given incomplete multiplication fact tables through the
duration of the camp. They will need to fill out and hand in every table at the start of each day.
This will help solidify their facts as they continue to move further into Algebra I. A few major
concepts seen throughout a basic Algebra I course will be introduced each day. Such concepts
include but are not limited to: a review of the order of operations (PEMDAS), evaluating
algebraic expressions, reviewing mathematical properties, graphing lines from equations using
slope-intercept form, an introduction to polynomials, and using the greatest common factor.
Students will have a chance to form groups and work on problems together after each short
lecture.
Algebra I Topics w/ Schedule Outline
Topics to be covered:
 Day 1 – Multiplication facts / Percentages, Fractions, & Decimals
 Day 2 – The Order of Operations: PEMDAS / Negative Numbers
 Day 3 – Single Variable Algebra Equations / Evaluating Algebraic Equations / Properties:
Commutative, Associative, Distributive, Inverse, & Identity
 Day 4 – Slope-Intercept Form / Addition, Subtraction, & Multiplication of Polynomials
 Day 5 – More on Slope-Intercept Form / Factoring Polynomials (Using the GCF) /
Substitution

Instructors:
