“Fire” & “Water” 12"x16" Watercolor on Watercolor Paper By Elese Moran Free Horizon Montessori School In Fire and Water, artist and educator Elese Moran explores the interplay between geometry, emotion, and elemental forces through the intuitive medium of watercolor. Created independently as part of her professional practice, these paintings reflect the same philosophical undercurrent she brings into her classroom—one where logic and feeling, structure and flow, coexist in harmony. Fire is an intricate meditation on symmetry and strength, using interlocking squares and luminous gradients to evoke warmth, pattern, and sacred order. Water offers a gentle counterbalance: pinwheeled circles radiate in layered spirals, expressing motion, breath, and emotional fluidity. Though not student-made, these works are rooted in the same values Elese imparts to her students throughout the year—that art and math are not separate disciplines, but deeply connected languages capable of expressing wonder, clarity, and human feeling.
