Freedom 4 Youth&rsquo;s Restorative Justice Diversion Facilitator Training prepares participants to serve as Youth Restorative Justice Facilitators, supporting diversion cases referred by Santa Barbara Probation and local schools. Through a 7-week practicum, participants are introduced to restorative justice principles and guided through the full diversion process, including pre-conferencing, circle facilitation, and the development of accountability plans. Under the supervision of experienced facilitators, participants gain hands-on experience co-facilitating real cases, helping to repair harm while supporting youth in building accountability and avoiding further involvement in the juvenile legal system. With a flexible schedule designed to accommodate school and work commitments, this training offers a meaningful opportunity to build practical skills and contribute to healing-centered, community-based alternatives to incarceration. This training is being offered to expand our volunteer capacity and enhance the skills of our community partners that provide direct services to youth in our community.&nbsp; Benefits of Becoming an RJ Facilitator:&nbsp;- Restorative Dialogue Skills- Youth Justice Experiences- Conflict Resolution Techniques- Social Justice Framework Curriculum Model: The Introductory Course is interactive following a modified version of the Restorative Justice Curriculum from the Center for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Texas at Austin (originally developed by Dr. Karron G. Leandra HarrisLeandra Harris is the Director of Youth Programs at Freedom 4 Youth and a restorative justice practitioner dedicated to supporting youth impacted by foster care and the criminal legal system. Drawing from her lived experience as a former foster youth, she brings a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to restorative practices that center healing and accountability. Gabriela Dodson, LCSW, MSWGabriela Dodson is the Director of Wellness &amp; Recovery Programs at the Mental Wellness Center and a licensed clinical social worker. Her work integrates trauma-informed care and restorative justice principles to support healing, accountability, and community well-being. Braedon ErvinBraedon Ervin is the Restorative Justice Coordinator at Freedom 4 Youth and a Sociology student at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a minor in Poverty, Inequality, and Social Justice. Trained through the Tara Haaland-Ford Restorative Justice Project, he supports restorative justice cases and community dialogue processes focused on healing and accountability. Val Padilla Val has been a part of the Santa Barbara Teen Legal Clinic, and now Freedom 4 Youth, for 3 years and is a Junior at Dos Pueblos High School.
