On March Friday the 13th, get ready for a spooky-themed social dance at Empyrean Art Studios in Downtown Asheville! Admission is sliding scale, suggested donation $10-20. No one turned away for lack of funds, work-trade opportunities available for free entry! Fusion dance is a social partner dance originating from Blues dance. Never danced before? All good. The Intro to Fusion Dancing lesson will teach you everything you need to know to start dancing! (No partner required!) - This dance is Mask-Encouraged! What does this mean?The main dance floor is mask optional. There will be 2 designated areas -one for dancing, one for relaxing- where masks are required to be worn. We will have masks at the door and plenty of hand sanitizer to keep us safe in the cold and flu season!! - Why have a mask encouraged social dance?I (Savanah) have a few humans in my life who struggle to attend or feel safe attending events because of health concerns. The hope and desire in throwing this event is to give people who don&rsquo;t normally feel safe or comfortable the opportunity to dance with others in an environment that is inclusive and welcoming. - Why is this event not completely masked required?Social dancing is not usually a space where masks are required. Our hope in having designated areas, is that we are fulfilling the need of accessibility to those who require it, and are still encouraging folks to come who might view wearing a mask as a barrier. We want to give new dancers the opportunity to dance with people of all different levels of experiences and backgrounds and so want to give both options for current dancers not socialized to mask up. So please!
