Rooted Reflections is a creative journaling workshop where plant lovers will design their own plant-themed mindfulness journals using affirmations, prompts, and mindfulness and plant related stickers. Join plant scientist and educator Dr. Jamie Boyer, NYBG Vice President of Education, for a fascinating hands-on workshop on plant form and function. Roll up your sleeves to explore the basic structure of plants, from roots to shoots and from flowers to fruits. You’ll learn how to observe plant health indicators, use simple tools to study plant structure, and practice basic techniques for maintenance and care. Walk away with not just new knowledge, but also practical skills you can use in your own apartment or garden.

Saturday August 30th 3:00 to 4:30 pm

How to pot & stage cactus + succulents habitat style. Each participant will get to take home a well staged cactus or succulent. We'll begin the workshop talking about the habitat of these plants, and how they survive/thrive. That will transition to talking about how that translates to a potted plant. We'll then talk about potting medium (soil) that I've specially formulated for these plants/pots. Next we'll unpot the plants from plastic, prepare for potting and then pot them in terracotta. We'll make sure the plants are snug, then top dress them with small rocks/minerals, sand and frame the plant with a slightly larger rock or three.

Plant the seeds of your tarot practice through botanical themed tarot cards. Participants will learn the basics of tarot, 3 helpful tarot spreads, and learn the connection between plants and spirituality through guided individual and partner work using The Herb Crafter's Tarot, a plant-themed tarot deck. Each Participant will receive a tarot deck and a goodie bag with tarot essentials.

Lucas will lead attendees in how to grow a variety of miniature orchids in all kinds of terrariums, while they work on planting their own miniature orchid terrariums in a humble deli container.

Join us for a hands-on adventure where you’ll mount your very own staghorn fern:

the wild-looking, antler-like plant with a strong resemblance to a leafy woodland

creature. Guided by Kseniya from Parkside Plants, you’ll learn how to turn a cedar

board, some moss, and a fern into living wall art. We will also talk all about

staghorn fern: various types, natural habitat, growth tips, and pest prevention.

Come for the ferns, stay for the vibes—you might just leave with a new favorite

plant!

In her signature workshop, Kseniya invites participants into a unique, hands‐on

experience where the wild meets art.
