*CLOSED 9/26 DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER* The Manship Artists Residency is proud to present HOCKNEY REPRODUCTION(S), an exhibition examining one of the most influential artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, David Hockney (1937-2026), through a lens rarely given sustained attention: his lifelong engagement with the reproduction of his own imagery. The exhibition explores Hockney’s six-decade fascination with reproducing, re-imaging, transmitting, and sharing his work through emerging technologies. With prints, books, rare multi-page faxed works, photographs, and more than 90 posters, the show reveals how reproduction served as a central force that shaped the artist’s practice. The exhibition was conceived and implemented by Manship Artist Bing McGilvray, an artist, curator, writer, and Hockney’s friend of more than forty-five years. Bringing together works from the collection of Bing McGilvray, private collectors, and generous contributions from Salts Mill, Yorkshire, U.K., the Serpentine Gallery, and David Juda Fine Art, Hockney Reproduction(s) reveals Hockney’s playful and persistent engagement with technologies ranging from photocopiers and fax machines to computers, iPhones, iPads, and multi-screen videos. Hockney Reproduction(s) is open on weekends (Friday - Saturday, 1:00PM - 5:00PM) at the Manship Artists Residency from September 11 to October 18. Directions and parking information to be shared once you register.
