Moorefields was built as the summer home of US Supreme Court Justice Alfred Moore, the second and last Justice from North Carolina, and a founder of UNC. In the 20th century the home was restored and maintained by artist Edward Draper-Savage, who designed the formal gardens and created a cemetery for his beloved cats. Stroll the grounds and gardens and visit both the cemetery of the Moore family, as well as the cemetery of Draper-Savage and his cats.
