LXCL:Enjoy the full sewing workshop -- all materials will be provided for you, except a 10"x10" square of natural fibre fabric (i.e. cotton, linen, or wool), which you can either bring yourself or purchase onsite for $5.

Registration

In this workshop, we will explore the construction of medieval clothing. Medieval clothing was constructed almost entirely of just squares, triangles and rectangles, as weaving cloth was a labor-intensive task and those shapes produced little-to-no fabric waste. And even from those shapes, medieval garments were well constructed and had a comfortable fit. We will try our hand at hand sewing 6 different stitches from the late medieval period and will produce a stitch sample you can take home for reference. We will also practice sewing using modern sewing machines and finishing with hand sewing in order to give our garments the appearance of having being entirely hand sewn. You are welcome to bring your own fabric if you wish, just be sure it is of a natural fibre. i.e. cotton, linen, or wool.
