Intro to American Mah Jongg

Looking for a fun new challenge to brighten up the winter months? Join our Introduction to American Mah Jongg class with Instructor Bernie Shrager and discover the excitement of this timeless game!


This beginner-friendly class will cover the basics of American Mah Jongg, helping you:

  • Identify and understand the Mah Jongg tiles.
  • Decode and use the National Mah Jongg League card.
  • Play a full game confidently.

📅 When: Monday afternoons, 4-6 PM running from February 24 - March 17  - Students must commit to attending all four weeks.
👥 Class Size: Limited to 16 participants for a personalized learning experience.
💵 Cost: $15 per person which includes an Official Standard Hand and Rules Card from the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. ($15 value)


Students are encouraged to sign up for ILoveMahj.com during the month of the class ($6/month with a two-week free trial). This platform provides an excellent way to practice and reinforce your skills outside of class.

Introduction to American Mah Jongg Class Schedule:

February 24: Learn to identify the tiles and how to do the Charlestown with a mock game. Learn to recognize the different sections of the NMJL league card and practice with Quizizz and with ILoveMahJ.com

March 3: Review tiles and Charlestown. Practice identifying the ten sections of the card and match hands to the different sections. Practice play in person and online.

March 10: Review tiles, Charlestown, and the 10 sections of the card. Learn how to interpret the meaning of the different colored hands and play in person and online.

March 17: Play in person and online.
