Affordable Access Registration

Get ready to explore the fundamentals of backpacking on a scenic overnight trip to Baker Lake! Join us on Saturday &amp; Sunday, June 27-28 for a beginner-friendly introduction to overnight travel in the North Cascades. This trip takes us along the beautiful Baker Lake Trail, where we&rsquo;ll hike through lush old-growth forests, cross bubbling creeks, and enjoy occasional views of Mount Baker and surrounding peaks. The trail follows the eastern shoreline of Baker Lake, offering a peaceful setting ideal for learning essential backpacking skills.&nbsp; Participants can expect daily hikes of approximately 3&ndash;5 miles with minimal elevation gain, making this an accessible and enjoyable experience for those new to backpacking. &nbsp;Campsites are located along the lakeshore, providing opportunities to relax, practice camp setup, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Throughout the weekend, we&rsquo;ll cover key skills including packing and gear selection, trail navigation, campsite setup, Leave No Trace principles, and backcountry safety. *Dogs unfortunately cannot come on our backpacking or hiking programs. So sorry, please leave our furry friends at home! Packing Party:&nbsp;We will have a mandatory packing party on Friday, June 26 at Backcountry Essentials from 6-8 pm. This is a great time to bring ALL the gear you are planning on bringing on the trip (we will send a packing list) and to grab gear you will be borrowing from us! We will also discuss logistics, food, and the plan for the weekend.&nbsp; Gear:&nbsp;Shifting Gears will provide group gear like tents, tarps, cookware, clean up bins, etc. If you have your own tent and want to bring it, that would be ok! We will have a gear list for you to pack before the trip of personal items. Items available to borrow will be 60L backpacking packs, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and trekking poles if needed. Food:&nbsp;Shifting Gears provides breakfast and dinners, while participants are expected to pack their own snacks and lunches.
