In this special 2-day hands-on workshop, printmaker Carol Brown will teach the process of mokuhanga printing and carving for multiple colors. Saturday - 10/17&nbsp;from 10a - 3p Transfer your 4x6&quot; design and carve wood blocks.&nbsp;Sunday - 10/18&nbsp;from 10a- 3p Students print their carved wood block, and continue carving using traditional kento registration and printing with water colors, rice paste, and a baren.&nbsp; Moku-hanga is traditional Japanese woodblock printing. Students will carve and print a reduction process, using both sides, from one block of wood. Carol will discuss elements of design, including background - foreground, carving and printing. Students will carve and print simultaneously with water colors and rice paste using a baren. Students will learn this hands-on process with Japanese art supplies and washi. Mokuhanga is safe for the artist and the environment.&nbsp; Bring a 4x6&rdquo; sketch. Students will go home with a carved woodblock and several prints. Students will be walking and standing during this workshop. Pre-registration is required. This process is fully water-based and non-toxic. Open to all experience levels.&nbsp;Carol Brown has a certificate in Printmaking from the Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX. She has studied with Hiroki Morinoue, Richard Keith Steiner, Katchy Caraccio, &nbsp;Tom Killion, April Vollmer, Keiko Hara, and Tuula Moilanen.

Students will carve and print their own artwork by the end of the class, and leave with experience in and knowledge of this process.&nbsp; Please bring a simple image you would like to try carving and inking for the mokuhanga process. We also encourage you to bring a bottle of water and an extra layer as the studio can get chilly in the fall.
