He learned the Islamic sciences at a young age and accompanied various guides and saints (awliya) in Iberia and North Africa. Around 1200 he migrated eastward, visiting Cairo, Hijaz, Anatolia, Palestine and finally settling in Damascus where he passed in 1240.
