CORRECTION to the video, it is a 12PPI Cross Cut saw! Win a One-of-a-Kind Pete Taran Cross Cut Triple Cove Saw — Donated to Plane Wellness This is not a production saw. This is not a catalogue item. This is a handmade masterpiece from the man who changed what a backsaw could be. Pete Taran is one of the most respected names in fine woodworking saws. In 1991, Pete filed his first saw. In 1996, he co-founded Independence Tool and set out to build a saw worthy of the craftsmen who would use it — modeling it after an 1830 Groves & Sons dovetail saw and pioneering what is now the standard in premium backsaws: the solid, no-slip brass back. No folding. No slipping. No compromise. In just two years, over 2,000 craftsmen purchased Independence Tool saws — among them Frank Klausz, Roy Underhill, and Christian Becksvoort. In 1998, Lie-Nielsen Toolworks acquired Independence Tool, and they still make that saw today using Pete's original patterns. Pete continues his work under the Ne Plus Ultra banner at VintageSaws.com — Latin for "the highest point capable of being attained." That's not marketing. That's Pete's standard. For this raffle, Pete has generously donated a Cross Cut Triple Cove Saw with a stunning Bubinga handle — hand carved in house to exact historical designs. This saw represents Pete's full Ne Plus Ultra build:

Hand carved Bubinga handle — a rich, dense West African hardwood, finished in hand-applied tung oil to bring out its natural warmth and grain

High quality Swedish steel blade — hand filed and hammer set using a double-pass process for maximum sharpness and even set

Solid milled brass back — will never slip, bend, or break; a lifetime of faithful service

Solid brass hardware — draw filed and permanently installed

Rip filed for tenon work — optimized for the ripping cuts that define precise joinery

This saw is an heirloom. It is the kind of tool that gets passed down. 100% of proceeds support Plane Wellness and our mission to bring the healing power of hand tool woodworking to those who need it most. Thank you, Pete.
