A Heart Too BigKody was the kind of person who left an impression&mdash;quietly, humbly, through the way he lived. A kind soul with strong hands and a gentle heart, he came to Rochester in November, chasing a fresh start with his fianc&eacute;e, Lillie. He had a rare genetic disorder, yes, but he didn&rsquo;t let it define him. He worked hard, starting a new job as a mechanic, hoping to build a life grounded in purpose and love. But life can be cruelly unpredictable.On a quiet Saturday, while taking a rare moment to relax and play Xbox, Kody collapsed&mdash;his heart giving out without warning. Lillie didn&rsquo;t hesitate. Fueled by love and sheer instinct, she performed CPR, keeping him tethered to life until paramedics arrived. It was nothing short of heroic. Kody was rushed to the ICU at Mayo Clinic&rsquo;s St. Mary&rsquo;s Hospital. There, surrounded by family from Rochester and New Mexico, machines breathed for him, and hope held him. He fought, silently, as his body rested on ECMO, a machine doing the work of his heart and lungs. On February 3rd, doctors removed the ECMO. Kody had stabilized just enough. They took out the breathing tube the next day and scanned his brain. The results shattered what remained of the family&#39;s fragile hope&mdash;severe anoxic brain damage. His heart had held on, but his mind had been without oxygen for too long.Lillie never left his side. On February 6th, Kody&rsquo;s family made the most loving and painful choice one can make: to let him go peacefully, without further suffering. His battle was over. Kody came to Rochester for a new beginning. Though his time here was painfully brief, he brought love, courage, and quiet strength into the world. That can never be taken. Now, we remember him not just for how he left us&mdash;but for how he lived: selflessly, bravely, and with a heart far too big for this world. We honor his memory with this event!
