MISSION STATEMENT:&nbsp;The La Grande Community Garden at EOU seeks to develop and expand available garden areas for growing, harvesting, and eating of local foods to strengthen family and community health, using natural, organic and renewable gardening methods.&nbsp;2. NORTHEAST OREGON NETWORK (NEON) &amp; EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY (EOU): The LGCG is a project of NEON which is the fiscal agent, and works in collaboration with EOU which owns the land and provides the water.&nbsp;LGCG gardeners are obligated as a part of this collaboration to:a. Accept responsibility for keeping the site neat, visually attractive, odor free, andb. Maintain records of their volunteer hours.&nbsp;3. LEADERSHIP: The LGCG Steering Committee creates and amends garden policy, makes decisions about garden-related expenditures, and plans events and fundraisers. &nbsp;Any gardener may join the LGCG Steering Committee, and participation can be counted toward volunteer hours (see #5). &nbsp;Non-Committee gardeners may initiate ideas and/or lead work projects or events to promote growing a better LGCG by first seeking approval of the Committee.&nbsp;4. COMMUNITY: The LGCG is a place for members, including children who are accompanied by an adult, to garden, share knowledge and develop skills. Gardeners harvest only from their own plot; the general public does not harvest from the garden. Produce may be donated if the gardener wishes it, and specific plots may be set aside to raise food for donating to community distribution sites.&nbsp;5. VOLUNTEER HOURS: All gardeners agree to contribute and document a minimum of 5 volunteer hours beyond working their own plot, per season. Hours may be accrued during work parties, Steering Committee participation, and/or through independent undertakings. &nbsp;The 5-hour requirement must be met in order to be in good standing* for future gardening at LGCG.&nbsp;6. PLOTS:a. Approximate Size: 6&#39;x16&#39; or 96 sq. ft. (with variations)b. LGCG gardeners in good standing (&ldquo;good standing&rdquo; is defined by maintaining plot(s) throughout the season, including end of season clean-up by November 15, and recording a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer time) from previous years may sign up for up to two plots if availablec. New gardeners may sign up for one plotd. If you cannot take care of your plot or need help, please contact a LGCG Committee Member to get assistance. &nbsp;Any unworked or abandoned plots may be reassigned by June 15, 2026 without a refund unless an exception is made by the LGCG committee.e. Unworked or Abandoned Plots are defined as those unweeded, unwatered, unplanted, and not harvested, or unattended for two or more weeks. A Committee Member will contact the non-compliant gardener through email two times regarding the negligence. &nbsp;If there is no response after the second contact (a week after the first), this may result in the plot being reassigned. 7. PROHIBITED: No dogs or other pets, smoking/vaping, alcohol, controlled substances or firearms are allowed in LGCG. No rototilling due to the effect of further distributing invasive weeds. &nbsp;Please use alternatives to plastic products (and reuse or recycle them) whenever possible.&nbsp;8. NO FOOD WASTE: If you have an overabundance of something you grow, or will be gone for a period of time, please let someone know, so that we may harvest and/or distribute the unused food. 9. PESTS/WEEDS: Gardeners agree to control pests to the best of their ability for the benefit of all gardeners. Pesticides and herbicides are not allowed. Keep weeds from going to seed.&nbsp;&nbsp;10. COMMUNICATION:&nbsp;Participants agree to share contact information in order to communicate with other gardeners about any issues and successes that arise, including vacations, watering schedule, conflicts, etc. The LGCG Committee uses email to communicate with gardeners. Gardeners are responsible for reading and knowing the contents of LGCG emails sent to them, and for responding when requested to do so.&nbsp;11. FEES:a. Operational fees for plots are non-refundable unless otherwise determined on a case-by-case basis by the LGCG Committee.b. Standard fee of $30 per plot, per season. A reduced fee option of $15 per plot, per season, is available for EOU students; gardeners who are eligible for OHP, WIC or SNAP also qualify for the reduced fee. Full or partial plot scholarships may be available; please ask the LGCG Committee.c. Payment is due in cash or check (made out to NEON, with &ldquo;community garden&rdquo; written in the memo area) at the time of plot sign-up.d. Plot fees help cover costs of supporting the garden, which includes administration and supplies.e. LGCG gardeners have access to water and use of shared hoses and tools. Limited free seed and plant starts, straw mulch and organic fertilizer may be available during the season. Please approach free resources with a sharing mentality.&nbsp;12.
