Some of the most interesting things in Lawrence aren’t sitting out where everyone can see them.

For those who start celebrating Halloween in August, this one has your name written all over it.

Get acquainted with the spookier side of Lawrence with a haunted walk, a trip to the cemetery where you get to play the apparition, and a few provisions to keep you safe from whatever might follow you home. (We make no guarantees about the effectiveness of the garlic.)

• Eldridge Hotel - Spend the night with a few of Lawrence’s oldest residents — some of whom may have never checked out. Ghost hunters, reporters, and guests have all reported strange happenings in the Eldridge Hotel’s famously haunted Room 506, said to be a favorite haunt of Col. Eldridge himself. From crackling water bottles and mysteriously moving bags to an air conditioner with a mind of its own, spend the night and see for yourself whether the stories are true.
• Bekah’s Archive – Spooky specter photoshoot & postcard.  Become one of Lawrence’s resident spirits—temporarily, we hope—with a 30-minute ghostly apparition photoshoot at historic Oak Hill Cemetery. You’ll receive 10–15+ edited, high-resolution digital images, with a ghost costume provided and the option to bring other outfits of your own. You’ll also receive a limited-edition, vintage-inspired Oak Hill Cemetery postcard printed in Kansas on archival linen photographic paper.

• Big Bluestem Farm – Take home a beautiful braid of locally grown garlic from one of our Farmers Market vendors. Delicious? Absolutely. Useful for warding off vampires? There’s only one way to find out.
• Squared Away Acres – Keep the spooky theme going at home with spooky soap and charcoal soap made by a Farmers Market vendor.

Ghost stories, graveyards, garlic and a chance to become the ghost yourself. Just remember: if you hear something go bump in the night after bringing this bundle home, that’s between you and the spirits.

What kind of adventure are we having today?

The Love Your Mother bundle is all about getting closer to the natural world right here at home. Learn what’s growing wild around you, turn locally grown plants into color, discover the wild spaces of Douglas County, bring home something beautifully handmade, and give your food scraps a second life.

• Frank Norman – Head outside for a foraging lesson and learn more about the useful and edible plants growing all around us.
• Ken Lassman – Explore the plants, animals, landscapes, and seasons of our own backyard with a signed copy of Wild Douglas County.

This bundle brings together locally raised meat, Kansas-made bourbon, Western stories, a little good luck, and the proper attire for the occasion. Fire up dinner, pour yourself a glass, and settle in with a tale from the frontier.

Fresh for Fifty Years takes us back to 1976 with a mix of local history, vintage finds, retro recipes, and some appropriately groovy Market gear. It’s a little celebration of where we started, the Lawrence we grew up alongside, and 50 years of keeping things fresh.
