Join Lake County Conservation Council for a special visit to the Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation 🐍🌿 See firsthand how Eastern indigo snakes are being studied and protected and learn what their survival tells us about the health of our water, wildlife corridors, and remaining “Real Florida” landscapes. Did you know that Indigo snakes are one of hundreds of species that use Gopher Tortoise burrows for breeding and shelter? A few fast facts about Indigo snakes: * They can reach 9 feet in length* They are solitary and non-aggressive* They are carnivorous apex predators. One of their favorite meals is a coral snake. Be prepared to walk a short distance on uneven ground. We recommend a hat and water bottle as it can be warm in December. Also leave a few extra minutes to find the rural location and to park. Please consider a donation to the center as a thank you. They will also have a small selection of merchandise available for purchase.Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation (OCIC) - Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens Your registration helps LCCC strengthen local advocacy for responsible growth and the preservation of Lake County’s natural resources.
