Learn, To Do is a monthly virtual speaker and training series to expand our collective toolkit through and beyond midterms&mdash;offering practical skills, strategic thinking, community-building and political imagination for all of us who&#39;re ready to move from despair into meaningful collective action. Hosted by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg of&nbsp;<a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.lifeisasacredtext.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Life is a Sacred Text</a>, the sessions are as follows:&nbsp; Finding your Role in the Work with Mariame Kaba (July 8)&nbsp;This session with visionary, legendary organizer and activist Mariame Kaba, author of We Do This &lsquo;Till We Free Us and other books, helps participants identify their most sustainable and effective role in social change&mdash;not based on what feels most urgent or visible, but on what actually fits their skills, capacities, relationships, and lived realities. This will involve an overview of the various roles that people play in movements; looking at the ways in which our identities, skills; capacities; and contexts shape each of our possibilities; discerning between urgency-driven action and sustainable contribution; looking at shifting roles over time so as to prevent burnout.&nbsp; Digital Activism &amp; Online Defense with Evan Greer (August 18)As Director of the digital rights org Fight for the Future, the queer trans activist (and musician) Evan Greer has helped lead some of the highest profile grassroots victories of the last decade, and she&rsquo;s a leading expert on LGBTQ rights issues and tech policy, particularly concerning content regulation, data privacy, commercial surveillance, and algorithmic harms. This session tackles the ways in which online activism works today, including mobilization; platform strategy; narrative amplification; protecting marginalized communities online; as well as surveillance awareness and digital security basics.&nbsp; A project of <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.lifeisasacredtext.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Life is a Sacred Text</a>, &nbsp;in partnership with&nbsp;<a fr-original-style="" href="http://educateusaction.org" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">EducateUS</a>, the series brings together organizers, thinkers, and other movement leaders to teach the skills we need for sustained action towards the world we must build. The Talmud (Kiddushin 40b) recounts a story of the ancient Sages debating the question: Which is greater, learning or doing? Though Rabbi Tarfon asserts that action is greater-- for action is, indeed, great, eventually, those present agree with Rabbi Akiva that learning is greater than doing because it leads to doing. When we learn better, we can do more effectively.
