PROGRAMHAYDN&nbsp;String Quartet in D major, op.76/5BRITTEN&nbsp;String Quartet #2 in C major, op.36SCHUBERT&nbsp;String Quartet #13 in A minor (&ldquo;Rosamunde&rdquo;) PERFORMERSJonathan Schwarz | Emiri Kakiuchi&nbsp;violinsMaya Konoe&nbsp;violaLukas Schwarz&nbsp;cello After its stunning premiere last year as the CMH Emerging Young Ensemble for 24/25, Leonkoro Quartet is back!! First, the quartet tackles a late work by Haydn often considered one of the greatest quartets of the Classical Era, contrasting lyrical introspection and energetic humor. Written at the 250th anniversary of Henry Purcell&rsquo;s death, we hear one of Britten&rsquo;s more important chamber works (he was facinated by Purcell) which combines modern harmonic language with historical forms. The concert concludes with Schubert&rsquo;s Rosamunde, full of extraordinary lyrical beauty and a subtle interplay between melancholy and serenity. It was composed when Schubert was struggling with illness &mdash; a testament of his indomitable creative energy and remarkable courage in the face of adversity. &ldquo;This quartet is already one of the finest: perfectly unanimous, colourful, and original.&rdquo;ALFRED BRENDEL
