Retreat Description:Longings and promises This is a free event with registration, and any contributions are appreciated as CHJ depends on the generosity of its supporters. The Orthodox tradition begins preparing for the Nativity of Messiah 40 days before Christmas, followed by 40 days of celebration. At CHJ, we seek to follow this tradition of preparing and celebrating Yeshua’s birth. Accordingly, we invite you to join us on Saturday, November 14, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at our Via de Dios location for a morning retreat entitled Longings and Promises. Together, we will explore the deep longings of the human heart and the promises God makes to His people. Our reflection will begin with the words of Isaiah 9:6, a passage used by one Messianic community to open its Shabbat services: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…” What is the significance of this promise? How long did God's people wait and hope for its fulfillment? Together, we will reflect on the holy longings placed within our hearts and on the faithfulness of God, who speaks through those longings and fulfills His promises in His time and way. Throughout the morning, we will continue the spiritual practices that shape CHJ's community life:

Reflect on the Word of God through guided teaching and contemplative silence.

Listen together for God's voice through communal discernment.

Respond to the presence of the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and praise.

Live as a gathered community, sharing our hearts while embracing both unity and diversity in Christ.

This retreat will be an opportunity to attend to the deepest desires of our hearts and the hopes of God's people, trusting that the Lord is present, speaking, and faithful to fulfill His promises.
