Portrait in Chrysocolla Green by Amaya Gurpide
$3,900

Starting bid

Portrait in Chrysocolla Green by Amaya Gurpide, Co-Artistic Director; Director of Drawing

Drawing in pencil, white chalk, and conte on hand-toned paper mounted on panel.

16" x 16"

Estimated value: $4,875

AMAYA GURPIDE Having learned her love of art from her father, a painter, Amaya attended the School of Fine Arts of Pamplona in her native Spain. In 1999, she moved to New York City to pursue her studies in figure painting and drawing, studying at the National Academy of Design, the Art Students League of New York, and the Grand Central Academy. In 2014, Amaya took part in the creation of the U.S. branch of the Florence Academy of Art in Jersey City, and in 2016 she was recruited as an Adjunct Professor of Anatomy and Drawing at the New York Academy of Art. With her turn toward drawing, Amaya’s process has refined – forms emerge on warm-toned papers from built up layers of graphite, chalks, gouache, and charcoal, often with the use of brushes to achieve a softer, more painterly effect. Experimentation allows each narrative to cohere and coalesce, and she is connected to her works by the intimacy of this creative act. In 2020, Amaya was commissioned by Time magazine to create a cover for their “100 Women of the Year” project. She herself has been recognized by the Evelyn Chard Kelley Memorial Scholarship for women painters under 30, the Newington Cropsey Scholarship, and has won numerous notable prizes. Her works are regularly exhibited in both the United States and abroad and have been included in several significant fine arts publications.

Estimated value: $12,000

Chad Fisher is a fine art sculptor who has vertically integrated his process in order to control the quality and the poetry of the final creation. Private Portrait Commission by Jordan Sokol
$45,000

Starting bid

Private Portrait Commission by Jordan Sokol, Deane Keller Chair; Artistic Director; Director of Painting

The winning bidder will receive a bespoke oil portrait by Jordan Sokol, an accomplished portrait painter whose commissions include distinguished institutions such as Princeton University and the University of Oxford.

Sokol rarely accepts private portrait commissions, making this a particularly rare opportunity to commission a work by an artist whose practice is devoted primarily to institutional portraiture and gallery work. The winning bidder will receive a lasting, one-of-a-kind work of art while making a meaningful contribution to the education of the next generation of artists at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.

The portrait will depict one individual and will be painted in oil on stretched linen canvas, up to 18 × 24 inches. The work may be painted from life or developed from photographic reference, in consultation with the artist.

Commission Details

  • Medium: Oil on stretched linen canvas
  • Subject: One individual
  • Size: Up to 18 × 24 inches
  • Reference: Painted from life or photographic reference
  • Expected completion: 2028

Jordan Sokol is the Deane Keller Chair, Artistic Director, and Director of Painting at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.

Jordan studied and taught drawing and painting in Italy and Spain for eleven years before returning to the United States in 2014. In 2015 he participated in establishing the U.S. branch of The Florence Academy of Art in Jersey City, New Jersey, serving as its Academic Director for five years before joining the staff of the New York Academy of Art as an adjunct professor.

Jordan’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe and the United States, including London’s National Portrait Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and the Ulster Museum in Belfast as part of the 2015 BP Portrait Exhibition, and has been featured in numerous fine arts publications and books. Jordan’s intimate and psychologically-charged portraits conjure the depths and complexities of the human experience, using flesh and the human form as a narrative vehicle to explore themes of life, death, memory, and time. The impact of these meticulously layered paintings has reverberated with critics and collectors, who both look forward to opportunities to encounter and grapple with his work.

Starting bid

Alexandra by Bo Bartlett, Visiting Mentor

Graphite on paper

22.5" x 30"

Estimated value: $18,000

Bo Bartlett is an American realist with a modernist vision. His paintings are well within the tradition of American realism as defined by artists such as Thomas Eakins and Andrew Wyeth. His paintings celebrate the underlying epic nature of the commonplace and the personal significance of the extraordinary.

Boxwood Still Life by David Baird
$2,700

Starting bid

Boxwood Still Life by David Baird, Drawing and Painting Instructor

Oil on linen

20" x 30"

Estimated value: $3,600

David Baird is an oil painter and draftsman focused primarily on figurative work. While inspired by subject matter familiar to art history, his work is equally motivated by the translation of perception into painting, a process by which the sensuality of experience is in constant tension with the materiality of paint.

Benefiting from extensive exposure to some of Europe's greatest works of art, the artist has traveled broadly. He has attended classes throughout the US and Europe, including Ryder Studio School (NM, USA), the Art Students League (NYC, USA), Studio Escalier (FR), and the Jerusalem Studio School (Jerusalem, IL). In 2019, the artist was awarded the Avigdor Arikha Masterclass Scholarship to continue his studies in Italy.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the inaugural exhibition Memento Vivere in 2021, celebrating the reopening of the historic Lyme Academy in Lyme, CT. In 2022, he won first prize in the New York Figurative Show at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York, NY, and was subsequently invited to exhibit in the first-ever annual Hartley Invitational at the same institution in 2022 and 2023.

Study of Nina at Night by Hollis Dunlap
$2,250

Starting bid

Study of Nina at Night by Hollis Dunlap, Drawing and Painting Instructor

18" x 24"

Estimated value: $3,000

Hollis Dunlap is a graduate of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in 1999, Hollis has been drawing and painting the human figure for more than twenty years. His long list of awards and distinctions include First Prize at New York’s National Arts Club (twice), the John Stobart Fellowship, and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (twice).

His work has been exhibited at venues from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Denver to New York and Miami, garnering extensive critical acclaim across the United States. The foundational skills that Hollis learned at the Lyme Academy, particularly from his teacher Deane G. Keller, have allowed him to become increasingly creative in his work, mixing modern and classical elements, as well as exploring abstract and modern color theories.

His attention to surface and the varying thickness of his paint contribute to the expressiveness and energy of each brushstroke he applies. The success of Hollis’s process is evidenced by the demand for his teaching, both nationally and abroad.
