We will return to the River Center to process the foam into functional vases using a combination of sculptural mediums and techniques. Students will learn to identify common invasive plants for harvesting to create an ikebana-inspired arrangement for the vase. *note: we ask the class to return the next day Sunday, 7/13 or by appt to retrieve your finished piece. Or leave it with us and we will display it in The River Center for Upstate Art Weekend! (July 17-21). We need the drying time.&nbsp;Refreshments will be available!Ages 12 + &nbsp;(if a parent &amp; child 12+ want to team up on 1 project that works. Or you can register separately for 2 projects) *Participants will meet at the River Center for a brief introduction. We will then be walking approximately 20 minutes to a site along the river to collect foam and returning to the River Center for the studio component of the workshop. Participants should be comfortable walking this distance and wear comfortable shoes and long pants if it isn&rsquo;t too hot.Andrew Brehm is a sculptor who incorporates video, design objects, and performance into his work. His exhibitions are eerily humorous and surreal while addressing themes such as his childhood, manufacturing, and magic. Brehm received his MFA in 2011 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Sculpture + Extended Media.&nbsp;Currently, Andrew teaches at Columbia University and has held past positions at Rutgers University, Kutztown University, &nbsp;The Stone Carving Studio and Sculpture Center, Socrates Sculpture Park, BEAM Center, and others.Andrew has exhibited at CPM Gallery (both in NY &nbsp;and Baltimore), Socrates Sculpture Park (LIC, NY) Practice Gallery (Philadelphia), the Belfry Arts Center (Hornell, NY), and Legion Arts (Grand Rapids, IA), 1708 Gallery (Richmond, VA) and others. &nbsp;He was awarded a Decentralization Grant by the Arts Council of the Finger Lakes (funded by the NYSCA) and was a Bemis Fellow (Omaha, NE.)Jennifer Lauren Smith is a sculptor working in time and lens-based mediums. She received a BA from Reed College in Portland, OR and her MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Her work has been presented in galleries and film festivals including Emerson Dorsch Gallery (Miami, FL), Pierogi Boiler (Brooklyn, NY), Reynolds Gallery (Richmond, VA), Finger Lakes Film Festival (Ithaca, NY), The Fa&ccedil;ade Film Festival (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), and Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten, (Marl, Germany).
