Like other Band Programs across the country, students end their tenure with a great deal of skills. Not only do they gain strong musical mechanical skills, but they more importantly learn the processes for how to grow on their own and help their peers do the same. Students are exposed to a wide variety of musical styles, opening their eyes and ears to all of the possibilities that Band can be and mean for people. Instruments, music, and other materials can be quite costly, and this can quickly add up, making this art form and experience financially inaccessible to many. Here at McHenry, we are deeply fortunate to have a community and school district that is supportive of removing as many of these barriers for entry as possible. The band discretionary fund creates opportunities so that any student can not only participate in Band but&nbsp;<em fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">thrive</em>. A well-rounded music education requires both group and individual instruction, and the fund allows for scholarships that stipend students&#39; ability to take private lessons from instrument-specific instructors, further directly supporting the arts in McHenry. A strong private lesson culture is essential for a high-achieving and successful Band Program, and the scholarship program truly ensures that music education in Band can truly be music education for ALL. Students&#39; opportunities and abilities to succeed are no longer held back by socioeconomic status, only their individual ambitions. By experiencing a robust and holistic band education, students are able to enter the adult world with the interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that will make them better citizens, leaders, and people regardless of career path.</div>
