ABOUT THE ARTIST This soul stirring band revolves around the mystical poetry of RUMI, a 13th century Sufi saint, and features Michael London on vocals and guitar, Paul Butler on wind instruments, Larry Cohen on bass and Bill Marconi on drums.  The band features some of Philadelphia’s very best musicians and have deep interplay on Michael’s original songs and their interpretations of classic folk, jazz and blues songs in their own unique and expansive style.  Concerts combine humor, warmth and exceptional playing to inspire the audience in a concert for the whole family. Michael London has a deep passion for acoustic and electric guitars.  His original songs carry his unique sense of humor and speak to the central themes and issues of living with passion and true joy.  Michael is also an interpreter of Rumi’s poetry.  He has composed songs based on many Rumi poems which reveal and make tangible our connection with the self, humanity, nature and beyond.   Michael’s musical journey began with singing folksongs and show tunes with his family.  He was especially inspired by James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Richie Havens and Marvin Gaye, as he began writing songs and developing his own musical voice.  In college, he furthered his exploration and shifted his focus to include instrumental work, learning to improvise and accompany dancers with atmospheric and lyrical guitar.  He continues this interest as a member of Playback for Change, adding his music to the improvisational theater group.
