MLK Legacy Kern will host the inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards &amp; Scholarship Luncheon on Saturday, January 16, 2027, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kern County Fairgrounds. The event will bring together community members, leaders, students and partners to celebrate service, recognize local changemakers and raise support for scholarships and community impact grants serving Bakersfield and Kern County. The inaugural luncheon will honor recipients of the Unsung Hero Awards, award Legacy Scholarships to students pursuing higher education or career training and provide Community Impact Grants to support grassroots projects that strengthen Kern County through service, leadership and civic engagement. &ldquo;The MLK Legacy Luncheon is an opportunity to honor Dr. King&rsquo;s enduring call to service by recognizing people who are creating hope, opportunity and positive change right here in our community,&rdquo; said NaTesha Johnson, Chairwoman of the MLK Legacy Kern Planning Committee. &ldquo;Through awards, scholarships and grants, this event is designed not only to celebrate leadership, but to invest in the next generation of leaders and the organizations working every day to improve lives across Bakersfield and Kern County.&rdquo;
