Out In the Open invites you to join Out In The Open for a Mycology Walk &nbsp;from 4pm-6pm and Community Meal at 6pm on Wahsumkik/Sears Island.&nbsp; Out In the Open is a Waldo/Penobscot County and Southern Vermont based rural queer organization celebrating resistance through connections, intersections, anti-racism and joy. We invite queer community members and the people who love us to come together for an exciting evening of appreciation for Wahsumkik&#39;s beautiful mycological system. Queer people, in the midst of climate catastrophe and systemic attacks, carry a legacy of love and solidarity with Earth and the beings who live here. At this point in time, we at Out In the Open find it critically important to reconnect our people to our beautiful, local landscape.&nbsp; Together we will carry this strength in conversations on fungal anatomy, mycology research, identification techniques, Wahsumkik ecology and so much more. Our fungal adventure will take us on a 1.4 mile loop along the Homestead trail to the Butterfly Field and down the Western Shore Trail to the beach and back to the outdoor tables to eat.&nbsp; We will close with a delicious meal and discussion. Food will be provided but anyone is welcome to bring a dish to share. The meal is set to start at 6pm at the tables at the beginning of Jetty Road. It is within 30 feet of parking which is along the causeway roadside. There are outdoor wooden tables but feel free to bring additional chairs and blankets to sit on.&nbsp; The meal is in an accessible location for wheel chairs. However, if you are in a wheel chair, require a stroller or have any other accessibility needs, please contact jae@weareoutintheopen.org or indicate in sign up, as the planned walk can be easily adjusted to stay on Jetty Road: a wide and even tarred road with a very mild incline. If you need any accommodations, please ask. The Mycology Walk will be more fun with you present! Anyone is welcome to join the community meal whether or not you participate in the mycology walk.
