Mama’s Got the Blues

100 Years of Women in the Blues
A Multimedia Concert performed by Ruth Wyand
Written and designed by Ruth Wyand and Jean Antolini

Mama’s Got the Blues is a multimedia production by blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Ruth Wyand and filmmaker Jean Antolini, merging film and live music to take audiences on a journey through the remarkable history of the women who helped shape American blues music.

Through live performance, storytelling and film, Wyand explores more than a century of women whose music blazed the trail for blues, jazz and rock & roll—from Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and Memphis Minnie to Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Bonnie Raitt, along with influential women whose contributions have too often been overlooked or forgotten.

Wyand brings their music to life onstage, tracing a musical lineage from the pioneering women of the early 1900s through the artists who continue that tradition today.
