New to roller skating or derby-curious? Our New Skater Program helps kids 7&ndash;17 build real skills step by step&mdash;standing, safe falling, striding, stopping, and then easing into roller derby basics. Coaches focus on confidence, body awareness, and teamwork, keeping things challenging but supportive.&nbsp; Skaters must be able to stand up on roller skates, stride forward, and safely stop without assistance to participate. &nbsp;If your skater does not have these basic skills, please check out the Learn to Skate class 30 minutes prior to every Sunday <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.tacomaartslive.org/events/sunday-open-skate/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Skate the Armory</a> session. &nbsp;Skaters generally pick up these skills in just one class.&nbsp; Gear Needed: &nbsp;Skaters must arrive with their own moldable mouth guard, molded and ready for play. &nbsp;All other gear can be borrowed.&nbsp; Gear List: &nbsp;Quad style roller skates (no roller blades/in-lines), multiple impact helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, and knee pads.
