Alla Prima is a direct oil painting technique that challenges the artist toapply distinct brush strokes with few layers to achieve a harmonious impression of the subject. Students will begin the first day of the workshop creating a small-scale poster study of the modelmeant to describe the visual resonance of light through the study of color relationships. On the second and third days, with the poster as a guide, students will work from the live model in a two-day, 8-hour pose from life. The second day will focus on the overall design (notan) of the portrait, and the third day will concentrate on refinement of that design working in an adapted method ofwet-into-wet form painting. Instructor will present lectures and demos in the morning andindividual critiques in the afternoon.
