Join us on Thursday, October 1st from 6pm - 7:30, for an Open Studio! Come by to peak behind the curtain of their process, ask questions, and engage in the world through their creative lens. This program is free, open to all, and takes place at the Indigo Arts Alliance Studio located at 60 Cove St. Portland, ME 04101. Artist Bios: Aisha Olamide Seriki is a Nigerian-British multidisciplinary artist, specialising in fine art photography and sculpture. Her process-led practice investigates tensions that arise when opposing forces intersect. Her practice is holistic and embodied, subverting formal photographic traditions. Cosmological systems such as the Yoruba Spiritual Tradition have informed the multi sensory approach Seriki has to documentation, communication, and creation. Through optics and trickery, she challenges the rigid imagination of self, creating space in the archive for a wider definition. Through her exploration of materiality and sculpture, she examines the photograph as a haptic object, resisting the notion of photography as purely visual. Asha Tamirisa is an artist and scholar whose work spans improvised sound performance, moving image and multimedia installations, and sound design. As a performer, Tamirisa uses interactive digital technologies, analog modular synthesizers, and acoustic instruments in hybrid systems. She has performed at the ICA Boston, the Boston Museum of Science, Bitforms Gallery (NYC), for Nonevent’s Waterworks Festival of Experimental Music, for Indexical’s Digital Alchemy series, and at several community spaces. Her moving image and multimedia works engage the conditions and politics of metaphors, memory, and the overlooked At the heart of Indigo Arts Alliance’s mission is our Artist Residency programs, which provides a creative environment for the production of artwork in all media across disciplines to global and local Black and Brown artists. We activate our mission by creating opportunities for critical feedback, relationship building and increased awareness of creative practices and resources.
