Owl Banding and Hawk Watching

Join Will McDowell and Five Valleys Audubon for a multi-day field trip to observe owl banding and visit the Jewel Basin Hawk Watch. Meet the field trip leader at 4:00 pm in the parking lot adjacent to the Conoco at the base of Grant Creek. The group will set up camp at Finley Point State Park, eat dinner, then visit The Owl Research Institute&#39;s Northern Saw-whet Owl banding station. The next morning the group will visit the Jewel Basin Hawk Watch with lead counter Dan Casey hosting. Hikers to the hawk watch can expect to drive on narrow, unpaved mountain roads to the trailhead and then make a 75 minute hike with a 1,200&#39; elevation gain to the ridge above Jewel Basin. Expect close views of migrating raptors as well as scenic panoramic views from the ridge top as well as a good chance of viewing Mountain Goats in close proximity. Our chapter requires a $10.00 donation for multi-day field trips. Participants will be contacted by email prior to departure to manage transport and logistics. The group is limited to 8 people, reserve your spot early!
