In Colombia in the 1970’s, community-driven research emerged as a tool for agrarian reform.  Investigación Acción Participativa or Participatory Action Research, is a powerful research paradigm that many communities in the Global South and US marginalized communities employ to empower themselves and change the conditions of their lives. Participants in this session will gain a greater understanding of participatory action research and how it relates to building power for social movements through a bottom-up approach to knowledge creation. We will present examples from our own experience and include interactive discussions for organizers to begin to identify potential participatory action research projects. This workshop will take place here at the Ayni Institute on Saturday March 22nd from 2-4 pm.
