Understanding CJS & IJS: How Scoring Impacts Skaters, Coaches, and Parents
This off-ice class will help participants gain a better understanding of the two primary scoring systems used in U.S. Figure Skating competitions: the Competitive Judging System (CJS) and the International Judging System (IJS). Participants will learn how each system works, how scores are calculated, and how to read and interpret a competition score sheet.
By understanding the scoring process, skaters can better identify areas for improvement, coaches can make more informed training decisions, and parents can more effectively support their athlete's development and competitive goals.
This session is appropriate for skaters, coaches, and parents. One parent and/or coach may attend at no additional charge with a paid skater registration.
This session is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Achieving Goals: How to Train Your Mind and Body for Skating
Success in figure skating requires more than mastering technical skills—it requires a strong mindset, effective training habits, and a clear plan for achieving your goals. This interactive off-ice class will explore the mental and physical tools that help skaters progress with confidence and purpose both on and off the ice.
Participants will learn how to set realistic short-term and long-term goals, develop productive training routines, and create action plans that support steady improvement throughout the season. Topics will include motivation, focus, confidence building, overcoming setbacks, time management, and the importance of consistency in training.
Coaches and parents will learn strategies for supporting athletes through challenges, encouraging healthy goal-setting practices, and fostering an environment that promotes growth, resilience, and long-term success. Adult skaters will discover how to adapt these principles to their own skating journeys, balancing personal goals, competition aspirations, and life commitments.
Through discussion, reflection, and practical examples, participants will leave with a better understanding of how the mind and body work together to support achievement in figure skating. Whether your goal is passing a test, landing a new jump, improving performance quality, returning to skating as an adult, or competing at a higher level, this class will provide tools to help you train smarter, stay motivated, and reach your goals.
This session is appropriate for skaters at the Basic 4 level and above, including adult skaters, as well as coaches and parents who want to better understand the goal-setting and training process. Parent and/or coach may attend with a paid skater ticket. Non refundable. Non transferable.
