Hello friends! We're glad that you're interested in joining the Pilsen Defense & Access Reading Group this month. The session will be led by PDA Executive Director Elias Cepeda. We'll be discussing the opening sections of Frantz Fanon's "The Wretched of the Earth" as well as the full text of Robert F. Williams' "Negroes with Guns."  Elias will present a short summary talk about themes connecting both books, and then we'll all discuss as a group. The week of the event you will receive discussion questions that may assist you in focusing your reading.  The event will be in-person at the PDA - supported Foundation Chicago Mixed Martial Arts academy in beautiful Pilsen, Chicago, but we are also opening up a zoom session for our friends across the world to take part should they choose.  We've also provided links to free pdfs of both texts below to assist with accessibility.  The event cost is $1 to help us cover expenses for the night. Please register in advance here by providing us your information. We are meeting around dinner time so let's eat as well during the meeting, potluck style.  PDA will provide pizza but please bring in a food item or beverage that you think you and others might enjoy.  All are welcome so please share this link within your networks so that others who may be interested can take part.  It is in no way mandatory but we ask that if you are so moved and able to consider giving a small donation to help support PDA efforts which include not just this reading group but also mutual aid clothing and hygiene supply drives for the unhoused and migrant populations here in Chicago, the full-service MMA academy Foundation Chicago and its kids Jiu-Jitsu scholarship fund, free community self-defense seminars, and more programming.
