Zapraszamy serdecznie! Polish National Alliance Council 21 is pleased to offer a 12-week Polish language course for the Fall 2026 semester. Open to both new and returning students, the course will help learners develop greater confidence and competence in Polish through conversation, practical use, and grammatical refinement.The course will be taught by Ms. Natalia Stefańska, a native Polish speaker, Johns Hopkins University graduate student, and Polish folk dancer.&nbsp; Beginning Sunday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m., this semester&rsquo;s theme &mdash; Moja wielka polska przygoda (&quot;My Big Polish Adventure&quot;) &mdash; will take students on an imagined journey to Poland to visit a sprawling extended family. First, they will need to determine who is who &mdash; because with twelve cousins, kuzynka alone will not identify the person who just called you a beetroot. From there, the trip will unfold through a series of everyday adventures: describing people, navigating an unexpected visit to the doctor, attending a birthday party, and finally celebrating Christmas with the family, where everyone will naturally be expected to sing traditional kolędy and wish numerous aunts and uncles health, happiness, and prosperity. Each situation will provide a practical setting for introducing vocabulary and grammar through usable Polish. Role-playing, games, and interactive exercises will help students develop the language they might actually need while visiting Poland&mdash;or at least while surviving a particularly eventful Polish family gathering. This semester&#39;s course will approach Polish as a vibrant, living language &mdash; not merely as a series of textbook lessons and exercises. Students will build communicative skills through active use of the language in a welcoming, supportive setting (along with a good dose of humor, absurdity, and, at times, libations). Grammar and form will, of course, receive their due. But true language learning begins with use, not with memorizing declensions and conjugations in isolation. Classes will be held on Sundays from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the PNA Annex, located at 510 S. Broadway. Free street parking is available throughout the Fells Point area on Sundays. NB: There will be no class on Sunday, November 29th, in observance of the&nbsp;Thanksgiving weekend. The course will conclude on Sunday, December 6th with a special workshop devoted to kolędy &mdash; Poland&rsquo;s beloved Christmas carols. Students will explore several of the most cherished kolędy, learn about their musical and cultural history, and participate in a collaborative translation workshop. Frequently Asked Questions Who is this course intended for? The course is open to learners of all levels. Beginners will receive the foundational support they need, while returning students will continue building upon and expanding the Polish they have already learned. What level is the course? This is a combined beginner and lower-intermediate course, roughly corresponding to CEFR levels A1&ndash;B1. What if I am a complete beginner? No prior knowledge of Polish is required. Complete beginners will receive structured foundational instruction while also benefiting from exposure to more experienced speakers. Being surrounded by a little more Polish than you understand is not a flaw in the method &mdash; it is an integral part of the method. What if I have taken the course previously? Returning students will reinforce prior learning, expand their communicative abilities, and encounter new material throughout the semester.
