Join us for a day out in the field with western monarch specialists Jessica Griffiths and Charis van de Heide! Take a guided field trip to explore western monarch overwintering habitat and their upcoming monarch radio-tagging efforts at a known overwintering site. While there, we will discuss monarch ecology, overwintering behavior, habitat conservation, and current research techniques used to monitor and track monarch populations. Your ticket directly supports western monarch butterfly conservation through tagging, migration tracking, and habitat monitoring. We will email the field trip location closer to the field trip day, but it will be within a reasonable distance of the Annual Wildlife Symposium. Carpooling is encouraged. Jessica Griffiths and Charis van de Heide are experienced Wildlife Biologists. They serve as the Monarch Overwintering Count Regional Coordinators in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties with The Xerces Society's Western Monarch Count. They also co-teach the Western Section's Western Monarch Overwintering Ecology and Habitat workshop. Due to the western monarch's declining population size, we cannot guarantee viewing. Registration fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to another individual at no additional cost. The Chapter reserves the right to cancel the field trip due to inclement weather, unsafe conditions, or extremely low monarch butterfly counts. If the trip is canceled, registrants will receive a full refund of their registration fee (excluding optional Zeffy platform donations). Participants may also choose to allow their registration to still be directed toward this season's monarch tagging efforts. For transparency, Zeffy automatically adds an optional support fee at checkout. We do not see how much you contributed to Zeffy, and it is entirely optional. If you prefer not to add this, set the amount to $0 or 0% in the contribution box. These donations can be amended or refunded entirely in your personal Zeffy Donor Profile. Please direct questions regarding registration and the field trip to events@cccctws.org & santabarbara@cccctws.org We hope to see you there!
