This is a true story of “when China meets Africa.” Filmed over four years, the documentary follows these three women as they navigate their lives against the backdrop of globalization. What has China’s investment brought to local communities in Africa? Do the women in the film ultimately achieve what they set out to? She has covered major breaking news across Asia and North America for a decade, and won a White House News Photographers Association award, an ONA Digital Storytelling award and a WAN-IFRA Asian Digital Media award. Now an independent filmmaker, Xinyan has directed content for international broadcasters including BBC, NHK, PBS NOVA and PBS Frontline.
