Immersive Producer and MIT Spatial Sound Lab Researcher KamranV (CyKiK) guides a workshop on how to create quadraphonic vinyl from object-oriented immersive mixes with the open-source software QUARK (Quadraphonic Universally Accessible Resource Kit). In this presentation KamranV will give a brief history of immersive audio, give a workshop on quadraphonic vinyl production (including a Dolby Atmos workflow), and explore the opportunities that open sourcing immersive audio provides. QUARK has received three National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants with the groundbreaking non-profit radio station dublab. For free, QUARK encodes and decodes immersive sound in real time, allowing anyone to easily distribute and listen to spatial music through all existing media including vinyl, cassette, radio, streaming video such as YouTube and music services such as iTunes and Spotify. In this presentation, KamranV will explore his recent production, CIANI/ORKEST where electronic music pioneer and five-time Grammy nominee Suzanne Ciani joins the internationally acclaimed Metropole Orkest, conducted by Simon Dobson; a bold, immersive meeting of the Buchla electronic instrument and 50-piece orchestral sound. Bio: KamranV is an Arts Technologist &amp; MIT Spatial Sound Lab researcher who produced the first quadraphonic vinyl record in 30 years with Suzanne Ciani, spawning three National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants for the open source immersive audio software QUARK (Quadraphonic Universally Accessible Resource Kit), making it possible for anyone to create and listen to quad-encoded music+vinyl at no cost. His immersive installations have shown at LACMA, MoMA PS1, LA Louver and Art Basel. Recent projects include improvisational, ambient quadraphonic cassette tapes with Arthur King, and Space Space, a non-profit immersive arts venue promoting peace through making space for deep listening, exploration, and experimentation hosted at The Majestic; his supper club co-owned with the Trani family, nestled in San Pedro&rsquo;s former Army/Navy YMCA, built in 1925. In the aughts as an artist manager and new media producer at Interscope Records, he developed early digital music, social, mobile, and video platforms, as well as experimental formats, and served as a producer for immersive music releases for Nine Inch Nails, Sting and Beck. He later founded Bedrock.LA, a 112-room, 40,000-square-foot music facility and hosted the production of Weird Al&rsquo;s #1, Grammy award winning Mandatory Fun.
