Clubs - Burlington Back 40, Cloverview, Honey Creek Hoofers, Kan-Do, Norway, Sunnyside & Yorkville
We will start with orientation on Thursday, April 23rd at 6:30p.m. at the Buck Trails Archery Club
located on the Hwy 11 bypass just south of Burlington. This meeting is required for all beginning
archery members who have not had a family member in the archery project before, as we cover
very important safety instructions and equipment information. If you have any equipment, be sure
to bring it to the orientation night.
The spot target sessions will be on Thursday, April 30th and May 7th at 6:30p.m. for beginners only and
Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 p.m. for beginners and 7:30 for advanced shooters. At these sessions, we
will be focusing on learning and improving your archery abilities. Leaders will help adjust equipment
and teach correct archery form and safety. First year shooters must attend at least one spot target
shoot or you will not be allowed to shoot outdoors.
The outdoor sessions will begin on Thursday, May 28th at 6:00p.m. for beginners and 7:00p.m. for
advanced. We will shoot eight sessions total. Please see the end of this letter for dates. You must
make five of the seven sessions. Scoring will come from an average of 4 sessions with your fifth
session being your fair shooting score. There will be no doubling up to make up. If you are
short of the 5 sessions, you will earn a ribbon, but you will be dropped a ribbon place for each
time you are short of the 5 sessions. If you need clarification as to which group you shoot with,
generally ages 8-11 shoot as beginners, or anyone that has not shot before, and 12 and older shoot as
advanced. Adult leaders will ultimately determine the appropriate level for each youth to shoot. To
participate in the Racine County 4-H archery project you need to be at least 8 years of age and in at
least 3rd grade by the first shoot.
The registration fee for the Archery Project is $10.00 per archer with a maximum of $20.00 per family.
If you have any questions, please call Racine County 4-H Volunteer and Archery Site Coordinator
Ralph Jannene at (262)537-4857.
Make sure to sign up for the Archery Project under Shooting Sports on your fair entry form on
the Racine County Fair website at http://www.racinecountyfair.com. We will not be shooting
archery at the fair. Racine County Fair ribbon distribution will be addressed by the Racine
County Fair at a future date. Typically, ribbons can be picked up at the Youth Building
office at the Racine County Fair starting on Monday of fair week.

In order to participate in the Racine County 4-H archery project you need to be at least 8 years of age
and in at least 3rd grade by the first shoot.
• The shooting sports registration fee and Archery Project Registration Form are due prior to starting the
Archery project. You will not be allowed to shoot until these forms and payment are submitted.
• Racine Instinctive Bowmen’s Club has graciously agreed to let us use their facility again this year. It is
located at 14403 50th Road, Sturtevant, WI 53177.
We are holding two orientation meetings for new members only on Monday, May 4th and Thursday,
May 7th at Racine Instinctive Bowmen (RIB) at 5:30PM. It is MANDATORY that all first-year members
attend one of the two orientation meetings with a parent/guardian.
If you do not attend an orientation
meeting, you will not be allowed to continue in the project. We will go over safety rules, equipment
needs, and basic archery technique, before doing some shooting with the remaining time. If you have
equipment and would like it checked by the leaders, please bring it!
• The first shoot is Thursday, May 14th. There will be two shooting lines every Thursday, the first
shooting line starts promptly at 5:30PM and the second shooting line starts promptly at 6:30PM.
First year members should attend the 5:30-6:30PM shoot every week, while second year and
beyond members should attend the 6:30-7:30PM shoot. Please note, the 5:30PM line shoots a
closer distance than the 6:30PM line. If you are a family with children in multiple lines and would like
only to attend one of the lines, you will need to attend the 6:30PM line. Please email or call Jessie to
discuss this option!
• We will shoot for scores every Thursday for 6 weeks, beginning Thursday, May 14th through Thursday,
June 25th - we will not shoot May 21 to observe Memorial Day weekend. Please dress
appropriately! If there is light rain, we will still shoot outdoors but will move indoors for heavy rain.
• Members are required to attend 5 shoots but are encouraged to attend every week! The first 4 shoots
will establish an average, and your fifth shoot will be your ‘fair shoot’. This score will be compared to
your average and will determine what ribbon you receive for the project.
• Equipment: Archery members who are in the project 2+ years should purchase their own equipment.
We will have equipment on site for use for those who do not have their own equipment. If you have
equipment you would like to sell, please let Jessie know and bring it to our weekly shoots!
• Racine County Fair ribbon distribution will be addressed by the Racine County Fair at a future date.
Typically, they can be picked up at the Youth Building office at the Racine County Fair starting on
Monday of fair week.
• If there is a member with any special need, please let Jessie know so we can plan accordingly. We look
forward to making the archery project a fun experience for all members!
