Get ready, young pitmasters — it’s your time to shine!The “Risk It for the Brisket” Kid Cook BBQ Contest is back on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Downtown Gilmer, Texas. This fun and friendly competition invites kids 14 and under to fire up their skills and show everyone what they can do on the grill. Each participant will receive two pork chops to season, spice, and grill any way they choose. Kids can bring their own grills or use limited shared grill space (first come, first served). Whether it’s your first cook-off or you’ve been practicing with the family pitmaster, this event is all about creativity, flavor, and fun! Turn-in trays will be provided, and judging kicks off right after the 11:00 AM turn-in. The top three finishers in each age group will take home prizes — and, of course, bragging rights as one of Gilmer’s best young grillers!
