A natural step forward was her certification as a spiritual director through the Shalem Institute in 2011. In 2016, after she met Connie Bovier, the two began collaborating to increase dream group opportunities in the Houston area. Velma became a certified dream facilitator through the Haden Institute in 2021. Currently she serves as a lay chaplain in the Houston Medical Center and volunteers with non-profit support groups, where her life experience with Alzheimer’s Disease and cancer equips her to mentor and encourage caregivers.
