Takkronor (Ceiling Crowns), were originally created as festive mobiles made of rye straw and other natural materials and hung in homes for good luck and successful crops. Today this slöjd (craft) tradition continues using new materials. She received her M.A. from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1987, and a Ph.D. from Ohio University Athens in 2000 with one year as an exchange student at the University of Trondheim Norway. She served as education coordinator at the Tweed Museum of Art from 1991 to 1999 before joining the UMD Department of Art and Design as a professor of art education. Alison's Nordic inspired paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally  including the American Swedish Institute and Norway House in Minneapolis, Gammelgården in Scandia, Vesterheim Norwegian Museum in Decorah Iowa, the Swedish American Museum in Chicago and the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Tacoma, Washington (2010). She exhibited her Nordic Mandalas and Floral Icon paintings at Sahlströmsgården (2013), Torsby, and Lessebo, Samlargrafik, Kristianstad-Fjallkinge and Växjö Stadsbibliotek Sweden (2009). Her work has also been exhibited in Denmark, Norway, Italy, and Estonia.
